The Texas Women Anglers Tournament, affectionately known as TWAT, is a women-only, family-run fishing event held every summer in Port Aransas, Texas. Founded in the 1980s, its mission is to raise funds for the Women’s Shelter of South Texas, now called The Purple Door.
Back in 1989, just eighteen boats and over fifty women anglers took part. Today, the tournament draws around forty boats and more than three hundred women anglers who come together to fish and support The Purple Door.
