The Texas Women Anglers Tournament (TWAT) is a women-only, family-run fishing tournament held each summer in Port Aransas. Founded in the 1980s, the tournament was created to raise funds for The Purple Door and has grown into one of the area's most anticipated annual events.

What began in 1989 with just 18 boats has expanded to an average of 40 boats and over 300 participants each year. The tournament brings together women from across Texas and beyond for a weekend of friendly competition, community, and support for a meaningful local cause.

Make your Port Aransas getaway even more memorable with a visit to the 2026 Port Aransas Wooden Boat Festival. This annual three-day, family-friendly celebration showcases the craftsmanship and coastal heritage of wooden boat building, with an impressive collection of handcrafted kayaks, paddleboards, skiffs, sailing boats and historic Farley boats.

The festival celebrates a boat-building tradition with deep roots in Port Aransas. The Farley brothers began building some of the country’s first production sportfishing boats here in 1915, and today that legacy continues through Farley Boat Works and the community surrounding it.

One of the festival’s signature attractions is the Family Boat Build, where families and teams take on the challenge of constructing a wooden Port A skiff during festival weekend before the finished boats are launched at the marina. Visitors can also enjoy beautiful wooden boats, coastal activities and a celebration of the maritime traditions that have helped shape Port Aransas.

Experience one of the Texas Coast's most celebrated wildlife events during the 2027 Whooping Crane Festival in beautiful Port Aransas. Each winter, visitors from across the country travel to the Coastal Bend to witness the majestic endangered whooping cranes that call the nearby Aransas National Wildlife Refuge home.
