October is upon us all.  Some say October is the best month to be in Port Aransas.  This can often be for many reasons.  The Summer season has come to a close and the crowds have subsided.  This provides a slower paced atmosphere and helps everyone get back on the notorious “Island Time”.  A great benefit for those wanting to come to the Coast in October is that thrifty travelers can typically find a few vacation specials or promotions.  Reduced crowds and lower rental rates are just part of the allure of Port Aransas in October.

Many would say that the weather is what makes October the best month to visit Mustang Island. Temperatures lower from Summer yet the sun still warms your skin and provides excellent tanning conditions.  There is almost always a cool breeze.  The perfect amount of afternoon showers in October keeps the grass bright green and the water the perfect shade of blue.  Hurricane season officially ends in October and Port Aransas is happy to see another Hurricane season in the rearview mirror.

October is also an eventful month.  A few events that hopefully catch your attention:

October 4 – Sharkey’s Beach Club 14th Annual South Texas Music Festival & Chili and BBQ Cook-Off

Benefiting the Jody McCormick Scholarship Fund.  Enjoy live music all day with Island Road, Bushbullet, and Antone & the All Stars.  Saturday night offers performances by headliner ‘The Riptones’ along with Todd Dorn & the Seadrifters as well as Lyrical Bynge.  Cook-Off categories include Chili, Brisket, Pork Spare Ribs, 1/2 chicken and Jackpot Pinto Beans. Ocotber 12 – The Harvest Moon Regatta

The Harvest Moon Regatta has become a fan favorite in Port Aransas.  The much anticipated race befins in Galveston and ends in Port Aransas.  Be at the finish line as the horizon becomes filled wtih the colorful sails of the boats racing in.   If you know someone competing in the race tracking ability is available through the website.  A great fun party follows the race.  Parking can be difficult so take advantage of the Aransas Harbors lodging right next to the marina.

October 18 – Annual Old town Festival

Take in some of the glorious history of Port Aransas.  Celebrate the town’s 104th birthday.  A parade through town is part of the fun.  For those adventurous types there is also a Surf competetion taking place.

Halloween Cruises – Red Dragon Pirate Cruises

October 18 through November 1.
Fun for all ages, these cruises run 6 days a week. (excludes Tuesdays) Join in on the fun and wear your favorite pirate costume. Snack bar and cocktails available on-board.

When it comes down to it, the best part of Port Aransas in October are the people who make up this beautiful town.  So if you haven’t been to the coast in a while come down and experience it for yourself.
